Glassmaking O-I features in BBC’s ‘Inside the Factory’

O-I opens doors as BBC follows Heinz Mayonnaise from free range egg to shelf

Schiedam – The BBC has featured O-I’s glassmaking in an episode of ‘Inside the Factory’ which follows production of Heinz [Seriously] Good Mayonnaise, produced and packaged in The Netherlands. The show was broadcast on BBC2 on January 9.

During the 60 minute show, presenters Gregg Wallace and Cherry Healey follow the entire process from visiting the 23,000 free range hens on one of the farms producing eggs for the factory and an egg cracking machine that separates yolks from whites at an astonishing rate of 1,700 eggs a minute.

The segment at O-I’s Maastricht plant illustrated how recycled glass is used to create the well-known Heinz [Seriously] Good Mayonnaise jar. The sustainability, safety and premium nature of clear glass are key to the supply chain which distributes the mayonnaise to 39 countries, from Malaysia to Panama.
